Developing the next-generation of diagnostic technology

Although many technologies can help clinicians identify where an injury has occured it is difficult to translate anatomical disturbances with functional impairments. This forces a gap between the point of injury and time to diagnosis, which can severely affect patient outcomes.

Current measures of motor impairment are, by and large, subjective. Despite the skill of the clinician, it is well-known that the same symptom may be a result of differing pathphysiologies. Developing data-driven diagnoses using in-vivo recordings, combined with machine-learning is a potential way to uncover underlying pathophysiologies and target treatment more effectively.

Following injury to the CNS, access to information on key changes within the neuromuscular system is the pivotal next step in improving diagnostic speed and accuracy. using….
